Peaty's Steel City Mini Downhill - Saturday 4th May 2013
May the forth be with you for the 3rd installment of Sheffield's biggest little race. Taking place once again in Greno Woods on the purpose built race track built by BikeTrack. This charity race is for the benefit of the Sheffield Wildlife Trust who have bought Greno Woods and the money raised will be used to further improve and maintain the bike trials.
Race Info
Last year there were 200 racers and over 700 spectators lining the course in Greno woods to see what happens when a Mini Downhill race is put on Peaty Style! They were rewarded by some fast racing from the ten year old groms in their first event through to the man himself; all flowing down a course crafted by local trail builders BikeTrack, before launching into the infamous crowd filled finish bomb hole. This year you can expect more of the same, with a course that is being tweaked to perfection and will include a new rollercoaster berm section. Timing will again be provided by MIJ organizers of their own Welsh series.
Race Details
This is not a full on DH race, it is a Mini DH with a push up back to the top on a dedicated fire road. The track has some significant features in it but all have a B-Line option around them should you not want to ride them. You do not need a full on DH rig to race, it would suit a mid-travel full sus machine but people have raced on all sorts. Peaty even won on his 29er last year!
A general location map of the event can be found HERE.
Please note: Full face helmets and gloves are mandatory for this race.
Whatever your reason is for attending the race, be it for the serious competition or just to have the experience of racing a mini Downhill, we’ll make it fun for all. Riders will get two timed runs with the fastest 3 riders in each category receiving a prize and a unique medal from the creative folks at Tado
Spectators will be able to see large stretches of the track, so make sure you bring your friends and family along.
There will be on site Medical cover , catering, toilets and car parking available. Car Parking will be £2 this year to cover the cost of the lost revenue from the damage to Farmer Jacks Field. No race or spectator parking will be tolerated in the Forestry commission car park and anyone parking here will jeopardize the future of the event.
Local favorites and long-time supporters Bradfield Brewery will be on hand to quench thirsts and Motoré Café will be providing a lift for the discerning coffee drinkers too. If you needed more incentive to pedal harder Whirlow Hall Farm Café will be providing us with a BBQ and Hog Roast and Streetfood Chef will be on hand to feed you with their award winning Burritos

Please leave plenty of time to register as queues get very long at peak times. If you are late, you will not be able to race.
Our Tshirts with a brand new design will be available for sale at the registration desk and at the finish of the race for £10. The TShirts have been designed by our friend and racer, Luke Heliwell. Many thanks lad!
Fancy Dress Competition
We couldn't let the May the 4th pass without giving a significant nod to Star Wars. As such we are running a fancy dress contest. This is open to all, Racers, Spectators and Marshalls. The best dressed person will receive a Cotic Bfe Frame. That's 300 quids worth for some imagination and dressing up. Can you imagine the heckles... "Whip it Wookie!!!"

Raffle
We have many amazing prizes to give away in this years raffle. To avoid the long drawn our drawing process, we will be bundling prizes together in to amazing lots.

Follow us on Facebook and Twitter to keep up to date with race information

Greno Woods
The Greno Woodland appeal is an on-going fund raising campaign, where the local community is attempting to raise £1 million to buy the forest back.
This would secure the woodlands use and maintenance for years to come, with Mountain Biking being one of the many activities in mind. All profits from the race will go directly to the Wildlife Trusts appeal.
