PERSONAL INTEREST:
Describe the Syndicate and what it means to you to be a part of the team:
The Syndicate is a group of people that have got together to go out there and take on the rest of the World. For me it is great to back on a big team, I already feel at home with all the guys and I am looking forward to working with everyone at the races. I will be able to concentrate 100% on riding my bike and going fast.
Describe your goals for 2006:
I wanna win lots of races and get a rainbow Jersey for my collection.
CYCLING BACKGROUND HISTORY:
When did you begin cycling and why?
I started riding bikes from around the age of 3 years old, I had 2 older brothers who I used to chase around the streets at home and then we all got BMX bikes and I used to chase them over the jumps in the park. I got into Mountain bikes when I finished school and didn’t start racing until I was 19.
Who influenced you and how?
Early on I would say it was my brothers that used to influence me, but since then the people that I look up to in races were Jason McRoy, He was the first UK guy to go out to the States and get a big deal. John Tomac He Always looked wicked in pictures and was an awesome all round rider.
Jeremy Mc Grath also influence me in other ways, he is a true pro and a really nice guy and used to dominate his sport.
Have you suffered any serious injuries cycling? Describe what and how:
I have had plenty of different injuries some serious some not so serious, I just try to grit my teeth and get back to what I love doing as quick as possible.I know I will have aches and pains when I get older and I know it will have all been worth it.
Other sports competed in and when:
Football at school, Some Motocross events in the winters.
Accomplishments in the above sports:
I made it to a high level in Football at school, but it wasn’t my thing.
Motocross, I am just average, I race against myself most of the time on a bike so I try not to get in to the argy bargy of MX.
What are your strongest qualities as a racer?
I can ride most terrain fast, carry speed well, hit technical sections fast, and keep a level head when it comes to the mental side of things.
What are your current and future goals in racing?
I want to go and win lots more races, now and in the future.
What are you doing to achieve these goals?
Training hard in the off season and preparing my assault for the season.
What are your current and future goals in life?
Currently I am training and spending time with my family, I am also working on a Steve Peat academy which I will get running over the next few years. This will hopefully be future goal too that I can put something back into the sport with.
Royal Racing is my clothing company and the goal with that is to take it Global within the next few years.
Describe your greatest cycling achievement to date:
Until recently my greatest achievement was winning the World cup race in Ft William, 20.000 people cheering for me was a very special moment. Now it has to be winning the World Championships in Australia, it felt like the whole world was congratulating me after that win. I have been trying to win the race for 17 years and had 4 silver medals and numerous close results. It has been the monkey on my back and i have had so much support from Sponsors and fans that it feels unreal to finally do it.
Thanks to everyone for the years of support.
Describe your worst race or cycling experience:
It has to be Les Gets World Champs in 05, I was up at the split and crashed with only 200yrds to go. That hurt me a lot and will hurt forever.
Describe your favorite race course:
I like a track with lots of different challenges in it, something for every one. When you are trying to be the fastest guy in the World you need different challenges to prove you are the best on every kind of terrain. I like it all.
